Started in 2016, Aslina Wines is the proud project of Ntsiki Biyela, South Africa’s first black female winemaker. Ntsiki got her winemaking degree from Stellenbosch University in 2003, going to work for Stellekaya Winery the following year, where she spent 13 years as winemaker and ambassador. In 2009 she was named Woman Winemaker of the Year and in 2017 she was named one of the year’s most innovative women in food and drink by both Fortune and Food and Wine. Her Cabernet is full-bodied yet elegant, with hints of mint, cigar box, and lots of dark fruit on a bold palate with chewy tannins.
Her new label, Aslina, is named in honor of her grandmother. Her Cabernet is a delight on the palate and works well at the table as it’s fresh and structured all at once.
Bold, dark and ripe with loads of dried fruits and expressive cocoa notes. Judicious oak use gives way to freshness and drive, while still maintaining weight and intensity as we have come to know in Cabernet.
